Enabling Connections volunteering
Age NI’s Enabling Connections service provides short-term, face-to-face support for older people who may be experiencing loneliness, social isolation, or a loss of confidence following a significant life event. As a volunteer, you will support older people in your area to reconnect with their community and build confidence.
What will you be doing?
You will be matched with an older person in your local area and meet regularly with them to:
- Provide companionship and encouragement
- Support them to achieve personal goals
- Encourage participation in community activities and local groups
- Help to build confidence and independence
- Signpost to local services and supports
You will have ongoing support and check-ins with the Enabling Connections Coordinator.

What is the time commitment of this volunteer role?
The role is flexible and can fit around your availability.
Where?
Visits may take place in the person’s home or out in the community, depending on their goals and interests.
What support will you receive?
- Full induction and training
- Ongoing support from the Enabling Connections Coordinator
- Regular volunteer meetings and supervision
- Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses

Additional information:
- Applicants must be aged 18 or over
- An informal interview, Enhanced Access NI check and two references are required
