Age NI Chief Executive, Linda Robinson BEM, said: “Age NI welcomes the interest and commitment shown by the Prime Minister to social care. We know that being able to access good quality, person-centred, rights-based social care improves the lives of older people and is key to preventing and reducing pressures within our health system.
"The trade-off between removing the Triple Lock for increased spending in social care will apply to England. We call on the NI Executive to ensure that any associated savings allocated to Northern Ireland are ringfenced for investing in social care.
"The Triple Lock has given older people confidence that the value of their State Pension would not be eroded. We urge the NI Executive to start preparing now for the proposed changes to the Triple Lock, identifying adverse impacts on pensioners here and planning for the introduction of mitigating measures to minimise them.”
