Age NI urges older people to check benefit entitlements as fuel prices soar

Older people are being urged to check if they are entitled to Pension Credit and other benefits they may be missing out on, as fuel costs rise.

Published:

Age NI is encouraging all older people to have a benefits check and make sure they are not missing out on vital funds.

With many facing increasing energy bills, the charity is concerned that thousands of older people who could benefit from additional support are not claiming the help available to them. Pension Credit can provide a valuable top-up to weekly income and may also unlock access to other support.

Brenda Kearns, Head of Advice & Advocacy at Age NI said:
“With fuel prices rising, many older people are facing impossible choices between heating their homes and covering other essential costs. We are urging all older people to check whether they are entitled to Pension Credit and other benefits. Many people are missing out on support that could make a real difference to their weekly income and help them stay warm and well. Even if you’ve never claimed before, it’s worth checking — you may be entitled to more help than you think.”

Anyone who would like to find out more or check their eligibility can contact Age NI for information and advice. Contact Age NI on T: 0808 808 7575, Monday - Friday 9am – 5pm, or use the online benefits calculator.
