We are delighted to announce a new date for our Slieve Donard Trek. Places will be held for those who had previously registered.

We have also opened up the event for new registrations and invite you to join us as we walk up Northern Ireland's highest peak: Slieve Donard.  Towering above the magical Mourne Mountains, the views are well worth the effort.

The route

Our mountain experts and guides will be on hand to meet you at the Donard car park. Please remember to follow government guidelines on social distancing.

The best route is a well-defined trail that takes you up the hill along the Glen River through a rich forest of pine, birch and oak. You’ll end up crossing the river via bridges a few times, but thankfully you don’t need to get your feet wet!

From the top, you will be able to see the Mourne Mountains stretching out like a rich tapestry all around you. In good weather, you could also spot the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea, the Wicklow Mountains to the south, and also the peaks of Wales, Scotland and even Donegal to the west. Amazing! A little closer, you will see the lovely sandy, pebbly Newcastle Beach with a strand that’s 2.5kms long.

Plan for the day: Registration starts at 8.30am, once registered you will receive a health and safety briefing before the ascent. Marshals will be on the route for guidance, support, and first aid assistance.

Age NI will continue to follow government guidelines surrounding COVID-19 and will update you on any change
