John's Story When John first reached out to Age NI a few years ago, when he was living alone and recovering from surgery. His previously busy and active life had been reduced and he was struggling. He contacted us to find out if there were any additional benefits to which he would be entitled. John was connected to Brenda, Age NI's Head of Advice and Advocacy. John said, “I was hesitant at first, but Brenda was immediately reassuring. She said to leave things with her. Before I knew it, with her help I was registered for benefits that I didn’t even know existed. The increase in pension credit has been lifechanging.” One simple call gave John the opportunity to start living his life to the fullest again. The additional income each week meant John could get out and about again, without the anxiety of not knowing how he would make ends meet. He has since referred others to Age NI, saying: "Anybody that needs any support, or just has questions about benefits and entitlements, give Age NI a ring. They were there for me and they will help you in every way that they can." “The difference of having a few extra pounds every month meant that I could get out, I could travel, meet up with people. My entire lifestyle changed, and I felt my health improve. I’m feeling good now because Brenda and Age NI looked after me.” Age NI's Advice Service is always here to help, please share the number with anyone in your life who might need support.Freephone 0808 808 7575Available Monday - Friday 9am-5pm Age NI is here when older people don't know where to turn.
